Public Information Meeting on Route 9 Interchange Exit 38 Improvements in Newington and New Britain

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct an in-person public information meeting concerning the improvements to the Route 9 and Route 175 interchange (Interchange 38) on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Newington Town Hall at 200 Garfield Street in the Town Council Chambers. The meeting location is ADA accessible. This meeting will be held as an open-house style presentation where individuals can view project plans and discuss comments or questions with the project staff. A formal presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“This project will alleviate high levels of congestion and improve safety for all roadway users by realigning the interchange and the Route 9 Exit 38 on- and off-ramps, “said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Stephen Hall, P.E. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

Right-of-way impacts are anticipated with the proposed improvements

Construction is anticipated to begin winter 2029 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of right(s) of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $9.5 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
