Ex-British Minister Mandelson Faces Arrest Over Epstein-Linked Claims
“Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in public office,” stated the London Metropolitan Police. Mandelson was taken into custody at a residence in Camden earlier Monday and transported to a London police station for questioning.
The arrest followed search warrants executed at two addresses in Wiltshire and Camden.
Authorities are investigating claims that Mandelson leaked government emails to Epstein, who died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019.
The revelations have already led to the resignations of senior aides to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and have intensified scrutiny of Mandelson’s past connections, drawing comparisons to some of the most damaging political scandals in UK history. Commentators have likened the crisis to the Profumo affair of the early 1960s, which ended the career of Secretary of State for War John Profumo.
Mandelson, long known as a political “spin doctor” and dubbed the “Prince of Darkness” for his strategic influence, concluded his decades-long political career with recent resignations from both the Labour Party and the House of Lords.
